Kenya’s DCI Releases Photos of Suspects from Anti-Government Protests

ree

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released photos of individuals suspected of orchestrating unlawful activities during the ongoing anti-government protests, which have entered their third week. The DCI has called on these individuals to surrender to the nearest police station immediately.

In a statement issued on X (formerly Twitter), the DCI shared images of the wanted suspects, advising them to report to the authorities. "The individuals whose images/photos appear below are wanted by the police for their unlawful activities during the anti-finance bill demonstrations. We therefore advise them to report to the nearest police station for further police action," the statement read.

The public has been urged to assist in locating these individuals by providing information to the authorities. Information can be submitted anonymously via the hotline number 0800722203 or by calling emergency numbers 999, 911, or 112. This development follows a warning from the DCI against those intending to exploit the protests for criminal activities.

The protests, initially peaceful and organized by Generation Z activists, took a violent turn as infiltrators began vandalizing businesses and clashing with police in Nairobi's Central Business District and other regions. The peaceful nature of the protests was disrupted by these individuals, who looted shops and threw stones at law enforcement officers.

Protesters expressed concerns over the change in atmosphere, noting that the most recent demonstrations were marred by delinquents who stole phones and destroyed property, unlike previous peaceful protests.

The DCI’s actions aim to restore order and support the original peaceful intentions of the protests, ensuring that those responsible for the violence are held accountable.
