Israeli Airstrike on Southern Lebanon Kills 10, Including Children, Amid Rising Regional Tensions

ree

An Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, has left around 10 people dead, including two children, according to Lebanon's state news agency, NNA. The strike, which occurred on Saturday, also wounded five others. All the victims were reportedly Syrian citizens, and authorities are conducting DNA tests to confirm their identities.

The Israeli military stated that the airstrike targeted a weapons depot used by Hezbollah militants. This attack comes in the wake of escalating tensions in the region, particularly following a deadly rocket strike, attributed to Hezbollah, that killed 12 children and teens in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Israel responded by killing a top Hezbollah commander in Beirut, further inflaming the situation.

The violence has added strain to the already tense ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, which are currently on hold after talks in Doha paused on Friday. Negotiators are expected to resume discussions next week.

Hezbollah, backed by Iran, has vowed to retaliate against Israel for the recent strikes, including the killing of a senior Hezbollah figure. Iran has also threatened retribution for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the political chief of Hamas, in Tehran. The region remains on edge as these conflicts continue to unfold, with fears of further escalation.
