Bangladesh Crisis: Awaits Interim Government-Army Chief to Meet Student Leaders After PM Hasina Resigns

ree

Bangladesh's army chief will meet with student protest leaders today as the nation grapples with the aftermath of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation and flight following a violent uprising.

Protests, initially against government job quotas, turned deadly, resulting in around 300 deaths and thousands of injuries. Dhaka remains tense with reduced traffic and thin school attendance.

Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus has been proposed by student leaders to head an interim government. Yunus, who currently faces embezzlement charges he denies, has agreed to serve if appointed.

Garment factories, vital to the economy, remain closed, awaiting further announcements. Yunus criticized India for sheltering Hasina, reflecting public anger at Bangladesh's close ally.
