Police in Vihiga County have launched a manhunt after an officer allegedly shot and killed his colleague while on duty at the government fertiliser depot in Esirabe, Luanda.
The suspect is on the run, and security agencies are working round the clock to arrest him.
Vihiga Police Officer Shot Dead While on Duty
According to Luanda Sub-County Police Commander Richard Siele, the deceased officer, Nicholas Samoei, died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The incident occurred at night, leaving residents in shock and raising serious concerns about police conduct in the area.

Suspect Kevin Omondi on the Run
The suspect, identified as Kevin Omondi, initially claimed that Vihiga Police Officer Samoei had shot himself. However, moments later, he switched off his phone and disappeared.
Commander Siele revealed that several residents heard multiple gunshots around 10 PM. When they rushed to the depot, they found Officer Samoei lying dead with a bullet wound on his head.
“We recovered both firearms — the one used by the suspect and the one belonging to the deceased,” said Commander Siele.“Investigations confirm that Officer Samoei did not take his own life. We strongly suspect foul play, and the missing officer is the prime suspect.”
Vihiga Residents Demand Answers
Locals expressed anger and disbelief over the tragic incident.
“We are deeply saddened,” said Thomas Okwako, a resident.“Police officers are supposed to protect us, not harm each other. The government must investigate and ensure justice is served.”
Body Moved to Vihiga Referral Hospital
The body of Officer Samoei has been taken to the Vihiga County Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Police are appealing to members of the public to share any information that may help track down the fugitive officer. Authorities have assured residents that the manhunt is ongoing and urged anyone with useful details to report to the nearest police station.
