Tragic University Student's Suicide Shocks Langata: School Fees Lost in Betting Scheme
In a devastating turn of events, a bright young student met his demise on Wednesday in Raila village, Langata constituency. Brian Ongwae, a promising 22-year-old enrolled at the prestigious Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA), tragically took his own life after losing his entire school fee to a betting scheme.
Ongwae had wagered a significant sum of Ksh. 15,000, earmarked for his tuition fees, in hopes of securing additional funds. However, his aspirations were shattered when the bet failed to yield the expected returns, leaving him in dire financial straits.
According to witnesses, Ongwae's demeanor noticeably shifted after the unsuccessful bet on Tuesday evening.

Distressed and despondent, he secluded himself inside his residence, engaging in conversations with an unseen confidant. Concerned neighbors, alarmed by Ongwae's prolonged absence, ventured to his rented accommodation, only to be confronted by a harrowing scene. They discovered his lifeless body suspended from the rooftop, a grim testament to his despair.
George Mukuria, the area chief of Muguimoini, revealed that law enforcement officials promptly responded to the distressing incident. Following a thorough examination of the premises, authorities transported Ongwae's remains to the City Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled to ascertain the exact cause of death.
In a poignant gesture, Ongwae left behind a note addressed to his grieving mother, urging her to find strength amidst the tragedy.
Chief Mukuria emphasized the apparent correlation between Ongwae's untimely demise and his spiraling depression induced by repeated financial losses from betting activities. He issued a solemn plea to the youth, urging them to refrain from engaging in such precarious ventures to avert further tragedies of this nature.
