Twelve Killed in Tragic Nithi Bridge Accident on Meru-Embu Highway

Twelve people, including 10 adults and 2 children, were confirmed dead following a horrific accident at the notorious Nithi Bridge on the Meru-Embu highway late Saturday night. The crash involved a matatu and a pickup truck, with one vehicle heading toward Nairobi and the other toward Meru.

Tharaka Nithi police commander Zacheous Ng'eno stated that the matatu may have veered off its lane, contributing to the collision. Two survivors were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

This tragic incident comes nearly a year after former Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen proposed straightening the road to eliminate the dangerous blind spot at Nithi Bridge, which has claimed numerous lives over the years.
