Former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Sunday while golfing at his private course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Secret Service intervened after spotting a gunman near the property line, resulting in a dramatic confrontation. Agents fired upon the suspect, who had abandoned an AK-47-style assault rifle and other items before fleeing in a vehicle. The individual was later apprehended.
This incident follows a similar attack in Pennsylvania two months ago, where Trump was shot at a campaign rally, sustaining a minor ear injury. Both events underscore the heightened risks faced by presidential candidates amid a fiercely polarized election season, with just over seven weeks remaining before the November 5 election.
Trump expressed gratitude on social media, thanking the Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift response. "It was certainly an interesting day!" he wrote. The suspect, identified by multiple sources as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh from Hawaii, was arrested after leaving behind a cache of weaponry. The FBI has not confirmed his identity, and further details about his motive remain unclear.

Authorities noted that, due to Trump not being in office, full security measures typically reserved for presidential visits were not in place. Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw stated that if Trump were the sitting president, the entire golf course would have been secured.
In response to the incident, President Joe Biden has instructed his team to ensure the Secret Service has adequate resources to protect Trump. Meanwhile, Routh's social media profiles suggest he was a proponent of Ukraine's fight against Russia, though this connection has yet to be confirmed as part of his motive.
Trump remains defiant, reassuring his supporters that the attack will not deter him. "Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!" he declared. As authorities investigate, questions about the suspect's background and connections to the recent attack persist.
