Spurs Thrash 10-Man United 3-0 at Old Trafford, Extend Unbeaten Streak

Tottenham Hotspur secured a dominant 3-0 victory over a struggling Manchester United at Old Trafford, capitalizing on the Red Devils' woes after Bruno Fernandes was sent off before halftime. The victory marked Spurs’ fourth consecutive unbeaten clash against United in the Premier League, as Ange Postecoglou's men continue their strong start to the season.

Tottenham set the tone early, with Micky van de Ven making a surging run from his own half in the third minute before delivering a perfect cross for Brennan Johnson, who scored his fourth consecutive goal—an impressive milestone in his young career. Spurs kept up the pressure, with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski combining well to trouble United’s defense, but André Onana managed a vital save to deny Maddison.

United had moments of promise, with Kobbie Mainoo setting up Joshua Zirkzee for a strong effort that tested Guglielmo Vicario, but Spurs continued to dominate the tempo. Johnson came close to a second, hitting the post, while Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho posed brief threats for United, only for Garnacho to see his volley smash against the post.

United’s situation worsened when captain Bruno Fernandes was shown a red card for a reckless challenge on Maddison. The sending-off left the Red Devils reeling, and despite Erik ten Hag making tactical substitutions, Spurs exploited their numerical advantage.

Shortly after the break, Spurs extended their lead, with Johnson again at the heart of the action. His pass, deflected off Matthijs de Ligt, found Kulusevski, who delicately finished to make it 2-0. United struggled to mount any sustained offense, with Casemiro and Garnacho trying to rally the home side, but Lisandro Martínez missed a crucial chance, and Garnacho’s efforts were thwarted by a resilient Spurs defense.

Tottenham sealed the victory in the 78th minute when substitutes Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr combined to set up Dominic Solanke, who calmly slotted home. The goal capped off a commanding display from Spurs, who have now recorded four consecutive wins for the first time since October 2023.

For United, the defeat marks their third winless game in a row, leaving them in the bottom half of the Premier League table with just two wins this season. Ten Hag’s side, already facing mounting pressure, will be looking for a swift turnaround as their campaign threatens to spiral out of control.

Tottenham, meanwhile, continue their impressive run under Postecoglou, building momentum as they push further up the table.
