Social Media Influencer Gabriel Oguda Found Safe After Alleged Police Abduction

Popular social media commentator Gabriel Oguda has been freed after reportedly being abducted by individuals believed to be police officers. This was confirmed by X user Nyandia Gachago on Wednesday, who posted, "He is safe," along with an image showing four people, including Oguda, who had been missing since Tuesday morning.

"He is safe watu wangu," Gachago wrote, thanking the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and its president, Faith Odhiambo.

Oguda's arrest is believed to be linked to his vocal opposition to the Finance Bill 2024, which has sparked nationwide protests. These protests turned deadly on Tuesday.

Reports of Oguda's abduction were shared alongside concerns that other social media influencers behind the X pages Franje, Drey Mwangi, and Osama Otero were also captured overnight, sparking a public uproar.

In a statement on Tuesday morning, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) condemned the abductions as a "return to darkness." LSK President Faith Odhiambo vowed that the lawyers' body would hold those orchestrating the abductions accountable.
