President William Ruto has donated Ksh.2 million to Endarasha Hillside Academy in Nyeri to assist in replacing items lost in the devastating fire that claimed the lives of 21 learners. Speaking during a church service in Nyeri, Ruto expressed his commitment to aiding the school and ensuring the affected families receive the support they need during this tragic time. He also pledged to facilitate the burials of all the victims.
Ruto has tasked Kieni Member of Parliament Njoroge Wainaina with overseeing the distribution of aid to affected families as investigations into the fire continue. "I will send you again there with Ksh.2 million to buy items for those whose belongings were burnt so that our children can return to school," Ruto said. He further assured the community that, once investigations are complete, he would work with the school’s director, David Kinyua, to help the institution recover and create a conducive learning environment.
Despite government claims that all missing students have been accounted for, the parents of the 19 boys who died in the blaze are still in distress, waiting to identify their children. Two more boys succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment, bringing the death toll to 21. Autopsies are currently being conducted at Naromoru Level 4 Hospital to assist with the identification of the bodies.
