Parliament passes the Finance bill,Moves to Final Reading



In a dramatic session marked by intense debate and heated exchanges, the controversial Finance Bill has successfully passed through the Committee of the Whole House stage. Members of Parliament (MPs) voted on the proposed amendments, propelling the Bill to its Third Reading. The vote tally stood at 195 in favor, 106 against, with three spoilt votes.


Speaker Wetangula announced the results, declaring, "The results of the division are as follows: yes 195, No, 106, spoilt 3. The ayes have it.” This declaration set off a storm of reactions within the parliamentary chamber.



Immediately following the announcement, MPs from the Azimio opposition coalition erupted in chants, expressing their vehement disapproval of the Bill. Their vocal protest culminated in a dramatic walkout, underscoring the deep divisions and contentious nature of the legislation.
