Mukuru kwa Njenga: Four More Bodies Retrieved from Abandoned Quarry

In a shocking turn of events, four more bodies have been retrieved from an abandoned quarry in the Kware area, adjacent to the Mukuru kwa Njenga slums in Embakasi South, Nairobi. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officials, along with a homicide team and the elite Recce squad, are leading the grim operation with the assistance of local residents.

As of Friday, July 12, 2024, human rights groups reported that over nine bodies had been recovered from the site. However, police reports indicated that only six bodies had been found by Friday evening.

Human rights activist Hussein Khalid, who is on the ground in Kware, Mukuru slums, assisting with the recovery efforts, confirmed that four bodies have been retrieved so far. This latest discovery brings the police tally to ten bodies, while human rights activists report a total of fourteen bodies recovered.

Khalid expressed concerns that the number of bodies might increase, as local divers have indicated the presence of more bodies in the pit. "Presently in Mukuru kwa Njenga assisting with the recovery of bodies. So far four have been retrieved. Local divers are saying there are more in the pit. Sad, sad scenes," Khalid stated.

The ongoing recovery operation continues to uncover the tragic extent of the situation, raising urgent questions about the circumstances leading to these deaths.
