In a high-stakes operation, Kilindini police have arrested two individuals in possession of 26 kilograms of bhang, marking a significant victory in the fight against narcotics trafficking in Mombasa County.
The suspects, Collins Omondi and Halima Masudi Hassan, were apprehended by Anti-Narcotics detectives on Friday. The operation began with Omondi, who was under surveillance after receiving a suspicious package at the Likoni Matatu Station from Tanga, Tanzania. The package, concealed within a pile of oranges, was stashed in his Subaru Treza, registration number KDE 948E.
"A thorough search of Omondi's vehicle revealed a cleverly hidden manilla sack containing 14 kilograms of bhang," said a spokesperson for the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
With Omondi in custody, detectives quickly moved to Hassan's residence. "The officers knocked on the door of Halima Masudi Hassan. Unfortunately for her, the faces she feared the most were on the other side. Inside her apartment, an additional 12 kilograms of bhang were discovered," the DCI spokesperson continued.
The dramatic bust has both suspects now detained at Port Police Station, awaiting arraignment.
This significant seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of the Mombasa Anti-Narcotics Unit to combat drug trafficking in the region. The successful operation underscores the vigilance and determination of the police force in their mission to keep illicit substances off the streets and out of the hands of the community.
