Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has recorded a statement at the Regional Police Headquarters regarding the alleged abduction and sexual assault of 25-year-old blogger Bruce John. The blogger claims he was abducted by approximately 20 county officers at his home in Bamburi on September 12 for criticizing Nassir's leadership, then taken to Miritini and assaulted.
Speaking to the press after the statement, Nassir condemned the attack and urged law enforcement to expedite investigations. "Nimejileta hapa kwa hiari yangu kwa sababu hakuna yeyote yuko juu ya sheria... lazima haki iweze kupatikana kwa huyu kijana," he said, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring justice.
On September 30, Nassir expressed his deep hurt over the accusations, denying any involvement by him or his family in the crime. Four suspects—Abdul Athman, Violet Adera, Esther Muthoni, and Haji Babu—have been charged in connection with the incident and face charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, abduction, gang rape, and assault. The court has denied their bail applications, with the prosecution citing them as flight risks.
The Governor has called for swift resolution to the case, emphasizing that no one is above the law.
