Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been impeached for the third time, as the county's political landscape grows increasingly turbulent. The impeachment, which was passed with the support of 40 out of 69 Members of County Assembly (MCAs), cites charges of abuse of office, gross misconduct, and gross violation of the law.
This latest move underscores the deepening rift between the governor and the county’s leadership. The motion, which saw three MCAs abstaining from the vote, signals a growing dissatisfaction with Mwangaza's leadership.

“This decision wasn’t taken lightly,” one of the MCAs backing the motion stated. “The people of Meru deserve better, and it is our duty to ensure accountability at all levels of government.”
The governor, however, has vehemently denied the allegations, calling the impeachment a politically motivated attack. “I am being targeted for standing up for the rights of the people,” Mwangaza declared. “This is not about governance; it’s about silencing those who dare to challenge the status quo.”
With tensions running high and the governor's future uncertain, Meru residents are left wondering what the next chapter in this ongoing saga will bring.
