Kenya submits the necessary documentation to Back Raila Odinga AU Chairmanship.

In a significant diplomatic move, the Kenyan government has officially endorsed Raila Odinga for the prestigious role of African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson. This endorsement was formally presented by Kenya's Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei, who led the delegation to Addis Ababa to submit the necessary documentation.

The Kenyan delegation handed over the documentation to Dharmraj Busgeeth, the Dean of the Eastern Region, and the Office of the Legal Counsel of the African Union. According to Sing’oei, Raila Odinga’s vision for the AUC encompasses a range of critical priorities aimed at fostering a more integrated and prosperous Africa.

“Raila’s priorities at the helm of the AU will include African Integration and Infrastructure Development, Economic Transformation, Enhancing Intra-African Trade, Financial Independence, Gender Equity and Equality, Agricultural Transformation, Climate Action, Peace and Security, and a Youth Empowerment Agenda for Africa,” Sing’oei emphasized.

The selection process for the AUC Chairperson requires candidates to submit a resume in the approved AU format along with a concise vision statement. This statement, which must not exceed one and a half pages, should outline how the candidate intends to tackle the most pressing issues facing the AU and the continent. It must be presented in at least two working languages of the Union and will be posted on a dedicated webpage on the AU website.

“The Eastern region shall submit candidates for the role of Chairperson, and the Northern region shall submit candidates for the role of Deputy Chairperson,” the AU agreed.

With a clear and comprehensive agenda, Raila Odinga aims to drive significant change and progress across the continent. His candidacy reflects Kenya’s commitment to strong leadership within the African Union and its dedication to addressing key issues such as economic transformation, gender equity, and climate action.

As the selection process unfolds, the AU member states and the broader African community will closely watch Raila Odinga’s bid, hopeful for a future underpinned by unity, development, and peace.
