Influencer Crazy Nairobian Released from Custody Following Public Outcry

Influencer Billy Simani, widely known as Crazy Nairobian, has been freed from police custody after his arrest on Friday. On Saturday evening, the President of the Law Society of Kenya, Faith Odhiambo, shared a video showing her with Billy shortly after his release.

Billy's release followed a significant online outcry, with over 50,000 Kenyans participating in an X Space event demanding his freedom and criticizing politicians for the harsh economic conditions affecting the country. Earlier that day, digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, who joined the discussion, felt compelled to act after facing intense pressure from Kenyans questioning the reasons behind Billy's arrest. Itumbi later revealed that the influencer had been accused of sending threatening messages to a public official.

"I have checked with the police to understand why Crazy Nairobian, Billy, is under arrest. It appears he sent threatening messages. I receive hundreds of such messages myself and they do not concern me, but it is indeed a crime. I cannot intervene, though I strongly disagree with the situation. I will reach out to the complainant to see if they are willing to withdraw the complaint," Itumbi explained.

Reports from Billy's friends and fellow influencers indicate that he was apprehended at his home in Mwihoko and initially taken to an undisclosed police station. It was later suggested that Billy was held at the Muthaiga Police Station, a claim disputed when his friends were unable to locate him there.
