Deputy President Kindiki Slams Rigathi Gachagua for Divisive Politics in Mt Kenya

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has launched a scathing attack on his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of sowing seeds of division within the Mt Kenya region. Kindiki’s remarks come in the wake of heightened political tensions following an incident where President William Ruto faced open hostility from a charged crowd in Embu County.

Addressing a gathering on Sunday, January 5, Kindiki condemned Gachagua for inciting residents against the Kenya Kwanza administration without providing tangible solutions to their grievances. He referenced a controversial burial ceremony where a discontented audience refused to listen to Ruto’s speech, signaling a growing wave of dissatisfaction.

"You can’t be a leader who listens to people’s grievances, then turns around to cry and complain without offering solutions. All you do is fuel anger and frustration," Kindiki stated, in a pointed rebuke aimed at Gachagua.

Leadership or Rhetoric?

Kindiki lamented the toxic political climate in Mt Kenya, warning leaders against engaging in blame games and smear campaigns. He called for responsible leadership that prioritizes unity and problem-solving over partisan rhetoric.

"We must avoid raising unnecessary political temperatures by attacking one another. Leadership demands respect and accountability. If you are angry about your own issues, do not drag others into your frustrations," he added.

Kindiki reminded Gachagua of the importance of mutual respect in a firm but conciliatory tone, emphasizing that unity is crucial for the region’s development and political stability. "I have shown you respect, and I expect the same in return. Let us conduct ourselves with dignity and focus on delivering for our people," he urged.

Embu Incident Sparks Debate

The heckling incident in Embu has sparked a national debate about the state of political leadership and public sentiment in Mt Kenya. Many observers view it as a reflection of growing disillusionment with unfulfilled promises and deteriorating economic conditions. Kindiki’s strong stance against divisive politics highlights his determination to restore order and refocus the leadership narrative on solutions rather than conflicts.

As political temperatures continue to rise, the coming weeks will likely test the resilience of alliances within the Kenya Kwanza administration. Observers are keenly watching whether the rift between Kindiki and Gachagua will widen or if a path toward reconciliation and collaboration will emerge.

The battle for Mt Kenya’s political soul has intensified, with Kindiki positioning himself as a unifying force against Gachagua’s confrontational style. As the region grapples with economic challenges and governance concerns, the need for solutions-driven leadership remains paramount. Will leaders heed Kindiki’s call for unity, or will the divisions deepen further? Only time will tell.
