Attempted assassination on Deputy President Gachagua's Staffer Sparks Outrage and Security Concerns

In a surprising disclosure, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua revealed on Sunday night that one of his staff members narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by an unidentified gunman. The alarming incident, raising significant security concerns, took place as the employee was leaving his residence in Kileleshwa.

During an exclusive discussion with local radio stations in the Mt. Kenya region, Gachagua recounted the frightening incident. The staff member, a former National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer now assisting in combating illicit brews in Gachagua's office, was shot in the shoulder by an assailant on a motorcycle. The employee's quick reactions, which allowed him to dodge what seemed to be a fatal shot, were crucial in saving his life.

"The perpetrator aimed for his head, but he managed to avoid the bullet, which struck his shoulder instead," Gachagua narrated. "He spent a week in a Nairobi hospital where the bullet was extracted."

Gachagua expressed his disappointment over the situation, emphasizing that despite the incident being reported, the gunman remains at large. "The individuals behind the attempted assassination have not been apprehended," he expressed.

The Deputy President also disclosed that President William Ruto was unaware of the assassination attempt until Gachagua personally informed him. "The President was not informed. I was the one who informed him. When questioned, those individuals were evasive," he remarked.

This attack on a crucial member of Gachagua's team occurs against a backdrop of political tension. In recent times, Gachagua has faced criticism from some leaders who accuse him of engaging in tribal politics, particularly in advocating for the "one man, one vote, one shilling" policy.

The incident highlights the increased risks faced by officials and their associates in Kenya's volatile political environment. The nation is now closely monitoring the situation, awaiting further developments and hoping for the swift capture of the culprits.
