Comedian and radio host Daniel Ndambuki, popularly known as Churchill, intervened on the night of Friday, June 21, during comedian Fred Omondi’s memorial service, after a segment of the audience began chanting anti-government slogans.
The disturbance occurred when Sports and Entertainment Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba attempted to address the congregation at Carnivore grounds. Members of the audience started chanting anti-government slogans and some even moved to prevent the CS from speaking.
Ababu Namwamba's efforts to calm the situation were unsuccessful, prompting event host Churchill to swiftly step in and address the disruption. However, attempts by the comedian to calm the adamant anti-government protestors failed, forcing Churchill to halt the event temporarily.
Following the disruption, the CS returned the microphone to the comedian and walked away, flanked by his bodyguards. The event, dubbed Last Laugh, featured several comedians who had gathered to pay their final respects to their colleague, Fred Omondi, who passed away a week ago.
Fred Omondi died in a road accident along the Kangundo highway in Nairobi.
Meanwhile, in an analogous situation, residents of Bondo in Siaya County stormed the offices of MP Gideon Ochanda after the legislator voted in favour of the Finance Bill.
The enraged residents marched to the MP's office, bearing a brown coffin inscribed with the name of Gideon Ochanda, and began protesting outside his premises. They accused the MP of betrayal and demanded his immediate resignation. Similarly, residents of Msambweni in Kwale County protested on the same day after their MP, Feisal Abdalla, voted in favour of the controversial bill.
Armed with twigs and placards, the demonstrators tried to enter the MP's offices but were swiftly dispersed by alert police officers.
